About Jasper:

Named for the Old French word jaspre meaning “spotted stone,” Jasper is an opaque variety of chalcedony, which is a form of quartz. This stone has enjoyed a long history of use across a wide variety of cultures as jewelry, seals, vases, and other ornamentation. It has been used in magical practices since the earliest times, often as a protective amulet or to promote health or beauty.

Jaspers can occur in virtually any color depending on mineral content. The red variety is the most commonly occurring due to high iron inclusions, lending jaspers a clay-red color that is sometimes speckled or spotted. Other common colors are yellow, brown, or green.
