The Egyptian goddess Bastet is the goddess of protection, pleasure, and health. She has a cat's body and head and is delicate in appearance. It was thought that she would fly with her father, the sun god Ra, across the sky every day. She would watch over him as his boat slid across the sky with the sun. To defend Ra from Apep, her deadliest adversary, at night she changed into a cat.
