Anubis, the Egyptian god of mummification and the afterlife, as well as the patron deity of lost souls and helpless people. Anubis was the jackal-headed god who conducted the weighing of hearts after death, and he guarded souls in the underworld as they traveled toward rebirth. As his many titles indicate, Anubis served as both protector and arbiter during an individual's death, and he even stood with the soul after death as a just judge and guide.
